The Elks Co-operative Credit Union has announced nominations for its Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee for the year 2024. According to the updated eligibility requirements outlined in Section 41 (2) of the by-laws, nominees must meet certain criteria to be considered for these positions.

Eligible candidates must be at least eighteen years old and either a citizen or resident of Saint Lucia. Additionally, they must hold a minimum of sixty fully paid shares and have been a member of the Credit Union for at least one year. Prospective nominees should have a track record of regular savings, contributing at least sixty dollars per quarter in the past year, and must maintain good financial standing, with no delinquency on loans.

The Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee roles demand individuals with specific skills and competencies. For the Board of Directors, essential qualities include strong leadership, financial acumen, an understanding of risk management, and knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, including the Money Laundering Act of St. Lucia.

Similarly, candidates for the Supervisory and Compliance Committee should possess leadership qualities, along with experience in management, finance, or internal/external audit. Understanding and compliance with laws governing the Credit Union, familiarity with its policies and procedures, and knowledge of the Money Laundering Act of St. Lucia are also vital.
